Course content |
Form and function, scope of discourse analysis. Discourse analysis and grammar, discourse analysis and vocabulary. Text: coherence and cohesion. Aspects of functional sentence perspective. Types of syntactic deviations. Constructions for highlighting information, extra-posed structures. Syntactic ambiguities. Interpretations of corpus findings and linguistic description.

Learning outcomes |
The aim of the course is to teach students to understand the English grammatical system in contrast to Czech linguistic situation. Students will be offered theoretical knowledge of discourse analysis and hyper-syntax and basic information on corpus linguistics.
Students will be able to use the knowledge of morphology, syntax and lexicology for the text analysis. They will acquire skills for work with text and concordancers, practical applications for language development and accuracy of communication in English. |

Active participation (maximum 2 classes can be missed) assignments according to instructions specified in lessons written examination based on the text analysis, students apply their theoretical knowledge for authentic text analysis. |
