Course content
|
The course focuses on significant poetic achievements in the field of modern American poetry from the end of the 19th century to the present. Through reading and interpreting poetic texts, students will learn about various poetic approaches as well as the pluralistic character of American culture, society, and landscape. In addition to established poets such as W. Whitman, E. Dickinson, E. Pound, e. e. cummings, V. Lindsay, T. S. Eliot, W. C. Williams, W. Stevens, R. Frost, L. Hughes, A. Ginsberg, S. Plath,,R. Erlington, H. D., M. Moore, G. Kinell, R. Creeley, G. Davenport, Ch. Olson, R. Duncan, D. Levertov, Ch. Reznikoff, L. Zukovsky, J. Ashberry, K. Rexroth the course will also include important achievements in the field of concrete poetry (E. Williams, A. Saroyan, B. Porter, J. Mac Low) and song lyrics (W. Guthrie, L. Cohen, B. Dylan, J. Mitchell, J. Baez, N. Diamond, W. Zevon).
