Course content
Corpus linguistics in relation to other approaches to language. Corpora, their design and structure. Types of corpora and principles of creating them. Process of tagging, lemmatization. Concordancing packages as tools for working with corpora. British National Corpus and other English language corpora. Language analysis and interpretation of findings. Corpus linguistics and second language acquisition.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with the detailed knowledge concerning the methods of linguistic research in the field of corpus linguistics, with the emphasis on real analysis of language corpora and interpretation of findings.
Students will be able to work with large English language corpora and on the basis of the findings will be able to describe the language from the point of view of the use of vocabulary, grammar and discourse structure.
