Course content
The concept of childhood and readings for children. Development of children's literature. Genres of children's literature. Poetry, nursery rhymes, limericks, riddles. Fables, legends, folk tales. The fairy tale. Fantasy. Adventure stories, tall tale, dime novels. Domestic tale. Picture books. The course includes 2 face-to-face lessons and 120 hrs of self-study, which is supported by Moodle. Instructions on how to proceed in self-study are provided in Moodle. Moodle also supports students with additional study materials.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to gain knowledge about the history, genres and theoretical concepts of British and American children's literature, to deepen students' ability in literary analysis and application of literary theory in interpreting particular texts of children's literature, and to reflect on the possibilities of utilizing texts of children's literature in ELT.
