Course content

Literature and its genres. Prose fiction: elements of: setting, character, plot: exposition, climax, dénouement. Basic periodization: Classicism, Romanticism. Basic periodization: Realism, Naturalism. Basic periodization: Modernism, Postmodernism. Drama: introduction - specificities, terminology, comedy. Drama: tragedy and other dramatic subgenres. Poetry: figurative language, rhetorical devices. Poetry: rhyme. Poetry: rhythm. Poetry: stanza forms, poetic genres.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to master the terminology and the theoretical and critical concepts needed for further study of literature. During the course, students will not only study theoretical works, but will also, in seminars, work with primary British and American literary texts of different genres. The learning outcomes will be the development of basic literary terminology, reading strategies and ability to apply critical and theoretical concepts on primary texts.
students will acquire socio-cultural, textual and analytical competence in literary areas. with the acquired theoretical vocabulary they will be able to interpret a literary text.
