Course content
The characteristic of the discipline and its basic terms. Pedagogical disciplines and their relationships with other disciplines. Education and the development of a person; education and society. The opinions on the education of a person in the development of pedagogical thinking - basic streams and their representatives. The institutionalization of education - the problem of current needs, traditions, and changes in the development of pedagogical thinking and practice. The aims and the content of education; the basic theories of education. Educational reforms, streams, and movements with an emphasis on the 20th century and current trends of the 21st century.

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to acquire the basic terms, approaches, and conceptions of pedagogical theory and practice; to understand the development of pedagogical thinking; to understand pedagogical streams in the world, with particular emphasis on the 20th century and the situation in the Czech Republic and Europe.
The student will be able to search for information, to process it effectively, to analyze and evaluate it critically; to form their own opinion on the diversity of pedagogical theories and concepts; to reflect on their own experiences from their educational career, and to evaluate these in relation to pedagogical theories.

Credit is based on: working continuously on individual projects, presentations: 2x annotations (1x compulsory literature - till Janury 2nd 2017, 1x other than compulsory literature - presentation + the deadline for handing in is individual), 3x essays (1st essay - till October 20th 2015, 2nd essay - the deadline will be specified, 3rd essay - till 2. 1. 2017) (Only student´s original work will be accepted!) Active participation in lectures + compulsory active participation on own presentation Submitting a portfolio with the outcomes of own explorative activities (annotations, list of readings- APA, mind maps) - till January 2nd 2017 Meeting all the requirements within the SET deadlines and active participation in colloquium is the basic prerequisite for granting the credit.
