|
The aim of this course is to enhance students' competencies in translating between English and Czech. The practical seminars will introduce basic principles of the complex process of translating. It is based on multi-level analyses of translated texts - lexical, textual and pragmatic, considering language and culture specifics, purpose, style, etc. Students will work for the most part with their own translations and learn the elementary techniques and tactics of translation, but they will also be introduced into the basics of text analysis based on theories of translating. The issue of applying translations for ELT purposes will also be discussed.
Students gain skills in translating from English to Czech and vice versa, will learn translation techniques and methods and will be able to analyze translations theoretically.
