Students will be introduced to the structure, changes and the most distinctive tendencies of modern German in comparison with modern Czech mainly in the areas of literary and colloquial vocabulary. The course also presents variability of the lexical system and factors influencing its stratification. Contrastive perspective is applied. The seminars are focused on working with concrete texts.
Students will actively manage issues of German vocabulary, word formation, words imported from other languages, metaphorics and pharseology. They will correctly interpret authentic German texts with standard and non standard elements. They will be able to characterize lexems, ways of enriching vocabulary, they will understand relationships between separate lexical units in terms of significance and will be capable of general analysis of modern German vocabulary.
