Course content
|
Beginnings of German literature until the end of the Middle Ages. Baroque (1600-1700). Sturm und Drang movement (1767-1785/90). Expressionism (1910-1925). Franz Kafka. German literature of the 1920s and 1930s, German exile literature. Literature of the FRG. Günter Grass. Literature of the German republic. Modern German literature, trivial literature.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to present selected chapters from the history of German literature, mainly prose, with the emphasis on the development of prosaic genre and the specifics of German literature.
Students will acquire chronological order of German literature and individual work with German literary text, its interpretation, comprehension and meaning judgement. Based on analysis of selected literary works, students will learn about the history of traditional and modern German literature and will gain the ability of their own and independent interpretation of read literature.

Skills with the ability to read texts in the original German.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination
Active participation in seminars (min. 75% attendance). Completion of set tasks. Reading of German literature - at least 2 "classic" works in the original. Final test covering the lectured topics.
