Learning outcomes
The Anthropology of Religion course is a required course for second-year religious studies students. It is designed primarily as a continuation of the How to Research Religion I and II courses. It expands the students' theoretical/methodological base with the views of leading anthropologists and trends. Among the researchers discussed are, for example: Radcliffe-Brown, Malinowski, Evans-Pritchard, Lévi-Strauss, Douglas, Turner, Leach, Obeyesekere, Luhrmann, Asad, etc. The course combines lectures that present individual topics and seminars that illustrate and comment on the interpretation. The seminars are mainly based on discussions about the prescribed reading.
Interrpretation of scholars texts in foreign language. Reflextion of theoretical problems of study of religion. Basic knowledge of history of anthropology of religon.
Prerequisites
Students have to be capable of reading and understading English written treatises.
