Learning outcomes
The seminar introduces to philological terms, overall characteristic of Semitic languages, extra-biblical textual sources or the textual tradition of the biblical literature. Morphological as well as syntactical phenomena are taught with an emphasis on the rationales of their functioning and form. A basic principle of the seminar is to exercise on the biblical material early on, not on artificial sentences (that is why the textbooks of Kautzsch and Prudký are used). The student gains the inevitable knowledge of liguistic terminology that is needed to be able to understand discussions of biblical interpreters at all, since virtually any biblical passage brings philological problems of such kind.
Students will learn more about the verbal system, syntax, and morphology.
