The objective of this course is to introduce the sociology of religion as a discipline that is on the boundary between sociology and Religious Studies, as well as its influence on both disciplines. A sociologist perceives religion as an important element of society and culture; a specialist in Religious Studies perceives a social dimension in religion and concentrates on the specific form taken by traditional religion in modern society.
Students will understand historically most influential sociological theories of religion and will learn basic terminology.
