The course is focused primarily on the forms of reflection of Indian religious traditions and the acculturation of Hinduism in the Euro-American cultural milieu. We will also touch on the topic of academic research on the religion of India and the impact of this academic research on the discourse on Hinduism today. Special emphasis will be placed on the current religious situation in the Czech Republic, in connection with specific religious communities and phenomena arising from Indian religious traditions. Students will also gain a basic overview of the religious history of India, from prehistory to the end of the 20th century. They will be familiar with the basic terminology related to Indian religious traditions and the classification of the most important religious texts.
