Course content
Comparison as form of a synthesis The meaning of intertextuality The artistic roots of 19th century European literature The Romantic Hero and the Concept of Romanticism The literary method of realism Realism and naturalism in the contexts of science and journalism Decadence and the symbol as a tool for expressing the incommunicable Tradition and Modernism

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to focus on the history of world literature from its first letter relics to the present day. This course introduces the best of world letters, using a comparative approach. It focuses on the comparative analysis of literary works and ensuing discussions. During the academic year, students are asked to present their seminar papers (on selected literary works) to their classmates and to answer the questions raised in discussion.

Credit is dependent upon active attendance in seminars; formulating a seminar paper (abstract); providing reader's notes for the titles assigned; test.
