Course content
1. Basic technical description of the book 2. The book market in the Czech Republic and abroad 3. Introduction to typography 4. Publishing house - its structure and basic functions. 5. From the manuscript to ready-made book. 6. Production of the book and its distribution 7. Marketing and promotion 8. Economical minimum 9. Legal enactments in publishing business 10. The book industry and electronic media.

Learning outcomes
The editorial-textual part of the course will offer historicical perspectives (selected chapters from the history of textual studies and editing) and purely practical ones. Students will learn the terminology, principles, tendencies and problems of textology. Knowledge of model editions will lead to the ability to compile an edition of one's own. In effect, the seminar should become a contribution to thinking and defining the role and function of the text, its genesis and reception. The aim of the publishing part of the course will be to acquaint students with the practical operation of a publishing house (technical preparation of a books, their distribution and promotion) and the functioning of the book market (legal and economic aspects of the publishing business).
