Learning outcomes
The basis of the course is a diachronic interpretation of selected poetry, prose and essay books belonging to the canon of Czech literature. We will thus trace the birth and formation of modern Czech literature in its historical context. We will examine the return of 20th and 21st century authors to works and themes of the 19th century (or the Middle Ages) from the perspective of historical and developmental, genological, thematic, motivic and narratological or versological perspectives. We will be interested in the transformations of poetics and genres in the broader context of social and general culture. Particular attention will be paid to adaptive and intertextual approaches (including homages, parodies and other continuities).
