Course content
1. Genre of essay in historical evolution and current tendencies. 2. Nonlinear, selforganizing principles of essays. 3. Criticism, polemic and arguments in essays. 4. Essay´s analytic and imaginative aspects. 5. Rhetoric background of essay´s composition. 6. Essays in creative thinking context. 7. Imaginative thinking as the bassis of essayism. 8. Selected representative figures of current essaystic genre.

Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Stimulating activities (simulation, games, drama)

Learning outcomes
Through the historical and contemporary context of essays in literature, science and journalism the seminar presents the genre tradition as an important instrument of today´s ctitical thinking. Main aim of the lessons will be to practice thematic, stylistic and rhetoric essay principles in academic, science popularizing and generally speaking reflective discourse of nowadays intermedial culture. The excercises will provide useful insights into the structural creative procedures, including different types of thinking, e.g. linear, nonlinear, argumentative, polemic and imaginative ones. The main added value of the seminar is the detailed feedback of the texts created in the mentioned way which includes also the final credit essay.
Deepening of critical communication on current topics of literary and scientific culture, use of essay approaches in self-reflection of personal development, support of creative approach to solving media and intermedial issues.

Student performance assessment, Oral performance analysis, Creative work analysis

Active participation and attendance according to the agreed rules are the main condition for granting credit. Another requirement is the preparation of a 5-page author's essay based on one of the topics discussed. Awarding of credit will be preceded by an individual critical reflection of this final essay.
