Course content
Language proximity of Slavonian langauges and the Bulgarian language. Geographical delimitation of the Bulgarian language in the past and in the present day. Basic periodization of the develpment of the Bulgarian language. Dialects and language diferentiation of Slavonian languages - changes of the conception of the Bulgarian language. Basic diferences between language and literature in the "gold age of the Bulgarian literature". Unity of Balkanian languages - Balkan language unit and its charakteristics. Origins of the literary Bulgarian language - Bulgarian language issue in the times of revival. Language charakteristics of the literary Bulgarian language. Dialectology of the Bulgarian language.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is the introduction to the question of Bulgarian ethnography. The course should illustrate the place of Bulgarian language among Slovanian languages.
Students should be able to make sense of the place of Bulgarian language within the frame of Balkan world. They should master its development and be able to analyse the connection between the language and society.
