Course content
Introduction to the history and the typology of literary criticism. National Revival criticism. Criticism in the era of Romanticism. Criticism in the second half of the 19th century. Criticism at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Personalism criticism. Avant-garde literary criticism. Spiritual and existential literary criticism. Normative and anti-normative literary criticism in period from 1948 to 1989. Post-Modern literary criticism. Current critical typology. Concrete marks of contemporary literary criticism and its practice.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce literary criticism to students, since it is the determining phenomenon for the development and values evaluation of Czech literary works from the beginning of modern letters; and, at the same time, it represents a significant variable of country literary culture and its status and typology of genres definitely transform to its specific features on the post-modern literary scene. An outline of the historical development of Czech literary criticism will be combined with the definition of theoretical aspects of this discipline and with analysis of its current practice.
On completion of the course, the students will be able to show their cultural historical awareness which can be used in journalism (in editing, in dramaturgy of medial practice, in contact with the media, especially in the realm of culture, furthermore in workplaces connected with the humanities (libraries, cultural committees) or in further studies of the humanities.

Credit is dependent upon adequate attendance (three absences are the maximum) and analysis of chosen critical review.
