Course content
1896 1930: early cinema 1930 1948: introduction of sound, protectorate, nationalization 1948 1962: overturn of communism, 1950s cinema 1963 1969: cultural liberation, introduction of so called new wave 1970 1989: period of so called normalization 1989 present

Learning outcomes

After successful passing of this course, students will have a broad knowledge of Czech cinematography. They should be able to divide the history of the Czech film into coherent phases and units and to characterise them. They will learn the most important styles, creators and works created in given periods. Students will be able to demonstrate on individual examples, how the cultural, social and historical context influences official film creation and how the film creation reflects topical ethic or esthetic preferences and movements in the society.
