Learning outcomes
|
The students will be acquainted with the basic terms in the field of translation and translation studies and with a brief outline of the development of approaches to translation. We will also focus in the the importance of competence in the target (Czech) language. The course is predominantly practical: it is designed to help students speed up the process of developing translation skills. The core of the course consists of the translation of various types of texts from Slovene to Czech language and the discussion of different translation procedures and techniques.
Students will be able to work with academic texts, analyze it, translate it and orientate themselves in a new vocabulary via translation of various texts in Slovene language.

Knowledge of Slovene language. Level B1-B2 in the CEFR.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment
Requirements for successful completion: active participation; submission of Czech translation from extract of Slovene fine literature or academic text. Each translation is rated 0-3 points. If the student accumulates min. 2/3 of the possible points, he will gain the credit automatically. If he obtains at least 50% of the possible points, he will gain the credit after submitting final written translation. The length of the paper will be 5 pages - that is 8000 symbols with spaces. Translation will be submitted via e-mail together with a copy of the chosen text.
