Course content
|
The situation of poetry at the beginning of the 1990s - publication of forbidden authors, self-publishing, and debuts of young authors (and also older authors who could not have had their work published in the previous regime). The origin and development of literary papers and magazines from the 1990s till today (Tvar, Literární noviny, Revolver revue, Host, Souvislosti, and others) and their contribution to the field of contemporary poetry. Publishing poetry in regional literary magazines and papers (Psí víno, Weles, Texty, and others) and their discovery of young poetic talents. The broad circle of spiritually oriented poetry from the mid 1990s; authors from the circle of magazines Host, Weles, Souvislosti. Other approaches to poetry from the mid-1990s: poetry as a game with words (authors from the Tvar circle); poetry as an experiment, record of triviality, underground (Krchovský, Jirous, etc.). The youngest poetry after 2000.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to attempt to penetrate into the complicated situation of Czech poetry from the 1990s till the present, focusing on authors who made their debut during this period. Poets, especially those from that period, will be present for some of the seminars. This course focuses mainly on the interpretation of individual collections and texts, with some space allocated for outlining literary circles and, in consequence, literary groups and groupings, and for tracking the developmental tendencies of lyrical genres.
Students will acquire cultural and historical erudition and knowledge of contemporary literary culture, necessary for instance for work in media (editorial work, dramaturgy of media praxis, a position in relation with medias in the field of culture), in institutions connected with humanities (in libraries, commissions in field of culture and similar) and also in further study of humanities.

Credit is dependent on active participation during lessons; on reading assigned texts; and on presenting a paper on a chosen topic (this is also submitted in a written form).
