Course content
1. Semantics and pragmatics of fictional worlds as a tool for interpretation of literary texts 2. Aesthetic effect of a text from the point of view of applied poetics, rhetoric and stylistice 3. Narrative categories of narrator in the context of text focalisation and points of view 4. Topological structure of texts, symbolic motives, chronotop and archetypes 5. Literary character as the central principle of thematic structure of fictional world 6. Rhetorical principles in the context of ideological structure of a text 7. Dialogue and dialogic aspects in contemporary Czech postmodern prose 8. Aesthetic pluralism, stylistic dialogues and value polyphony

Learning outcomes
The knowledge and skills acquired durign the previous seminar Introduction to literary theory will be practiced and improved through the individual seminar paper whose objective will be to analyze and interprete specific features of a fictinal world of selected current Czech narrative text. The fictional world of the text will be handled from the complex perspective, particularly with respect to dominant semantic and pragmatic, communication aspects of its construction, including relevant secondary literature on genology, stylistice and poetics, narratology and thematology. The compulsory part of the paper will be formed by literary theory analysis of a representative one list text extract, copied for the seminar participants in corresponding quantity.
The course graduates will be able to analyze various artistic or journalistic, essayistic and non-fiction texts, to find a corresponding secondary literature and understand the meaning of the text in the context of its cultural and historical determinations. All of these provides them with the general insight into structure and different functions of text communication, including its critical reading.

After a short methodological introduction, all participants of the course will present a detailed analysis of an agreed book of contemporary Czech prose during which, as well as through the following seminar debate, they focus on the complex approach to semantics and pragmatics of corresponding fictional worlds. Attention will be paid especially to the aspects of narratology, thematology and stylistics, together with the overal features of imaginative thinking and its aesthetic presentation in the text of the presented author.
