Course content |
Introduction to the modern Czech church history. The Catholic Church in the First Republic. The non-Catholic churches in the First Republic. The Catholic Church in the Second Republic and in the German Protectorate. The non-Catholic churches in the Second Republic and in the German Protectorate. The Catholic Church in the Third Republic. The non-Catholic churches in the Third Republic. The beginnings of ecumenism. The Catholic Church in the years 1948-1953. The non-Catholic churches in the years 1948-1953. The church policy of the Communist state. The comparision of the separate periods.

Learning outcomes |
The course will be devoted to the functioning of the Czech churches and their important personalities in the diverse types of regimes: in the democratic system of the First Republic, in the time of German occupation, in the first phase of the Communist dictatorship and in the transitional periods of the Second and Third Republic.
At the end of the course students will be oriented not only in the history of the main Czech churches, but also in the course of their mutual relations and in the church political context of the periods between years 1918 and 1953. |

The prerequisite for the exam is to write an essay on a chosen topic. The exam is oral, and a student should demonstrate his knowledge of the topics dealt with during the lectures and display an even deeper knowledge of the problem dealt with in the essay. |
