The course objective is to provide deeper insights to the important periods of Judaic history. Students will learn about the holy books, the development of Jewish thought and rituals, as well as festive days, traditions, and customs. Particular attention will be paid to the problems of Zionism, to various forms of anti-Semitism, and to the contemporary character of the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
Students should gain broader knowledge of Jewish history, culture, and religion, which is necessary for the following courses.

Didactic test, Discussion
Credit is dependent upon regular preparation of source texts, presence at seminars, and reading the secondary literature, and the exam will take the form of a written essay. Three topics will be given, and the students will choose two of them and write two essays - no more than three pages of A4 format on each topic, applying their knowledge of source literature, the contents of the lectures, and secondary literature. The written exam will take no more than three hours.
