Theological and philosophical inceptions of the study of religions. The study of religions and oriental studies. New approaches in evolutionism (E. B. Tylor). Magic and religion in social and cultural antropologists´ eyes. Phenomenology of religion (G. van der Leeuw). Symbolism in M. Eliade´s work. Religion and mysticism. Religion and politics / ideology.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to introduce the Study of Religions as a scientific discipline, as well as its relationship to other scientific disciplines including crucial issues.
The students will get a practice in reading and comprehension of foreign scientific texts and they will also receive sufficient knowledge for basic understanding of terminology and problems of the discipline.
