Course content
Religiosity; specification of its present situation; outline of themes; methodological questions. The development of Czech religiosity in a historical outline; towards the present situation. Legal position of religious subjects in the CR and the EU, today. Religious map of the contemporary world from a global point of view. The Orthodox Church in the world and in the CR; its important personalities; the Orthodox Church in the West. The Roman Catholic church; its contemporary trends and discussions among them. Other churches of the Catholic type. The three main branches of the Reformed church; their contemporary situation, streams, tendencies. Heritage of the radical Reformation. The Ecumenical movement; ecumenism; ecumenical institutions and activities. Atypical streams within Christianity. Modern Judaism; main streams. Present Islam; especially in the Western world.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the first part of this course is to gain a global view of the contemporary state of religion and to introduce the religious streams that have been present in Czech and Western (Euro-American) religiosity for a long time.
Students will learn about the main religious streams of the contemporary world, trends of their development, and about the present situation of traditional Western religiosity. This course improves the orientatio of students in situations that are connected with contemporary religiosity, e.g. in media, consulting, and other similar work with main religious streams.

Assessment methods and criteria
Didactic test, Discussion

To gain credit, the student must pass a written test consisting of 20 questions (each with three possible answers). This test is based on the literature considered and the topics dealt with during lectures. The student must also submit at least three annotations (three pages in length) for three titles from the list of literature.
