Course content
The problem with tolerance in Central Europe at the time of Martin Luther. Western Europe in the period of Reformation. Central Europe from the Peace of Augsburg to the Peace of Westphalia. Central Europe after the Thirty Years' War. Tolerance in the Age of Enlightenment in the Anglo-Saxon world. Tolerance in the Age of Enlightenment in Central Europe. The problem with tolerance in the relations between Christianity and liberalism from the Great French Revolution to the First World War. Modern history of Christian-Jewish relations. Ecumenism. The problem with tolerance between totalitarism and postmodernity.

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to look at the problems of tolerance and intolerance in the history of Christianity and the West during the period from the Renaissance till the present.
tudents will consider the attitudes of the most significant Modern Age clerical representatives, theologians, and thinkers in regard to the question of tolerance. Students will deepen their understanding of the ways of thinking that formed the basis of intolerance in European and Czech history in the Modern Age.
