Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce oikotypes of Czech material and spiritual folk culture and place them in a broader anthropological framework of European and non-European parallels.
The course examines the issue from the perspective of individual ethnological theories using selected examples from the field, presents recent anthropological schools and trends focused on research into European folk culture. It critically evaluates the history of research into individual cultural regions, emphasizing the importance of the authority of local activists (experts-researchers) in the process of constructing the concept of ethnographic areas and regional identity. The course also addresses current domestic museological issues and questions of conservation and presentation of cultural heritage. As part of the course, students complete fieldwork, during which they gain experience in conducting structured ethnographic research.
