Course content
- how can we "use" anthropology? Current challenges to an applied anthropology - the birth of applied anthropology and definition of areas of its interest - from application to activism - methodology of applied researches - ethics in applied researches - anthropology of development - engaged anthropology - environmental anthropology - anthropology of medicine - anthropology in/of politics and public administration and anthropological approaches towards social work - anthropology in education - anthropology in commercial sector - finishing the course, evaluation

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Skills training, Stimulating activities (simulation, games, drama)
  • Home preparation for classes - 35 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
This course will introduce students with possibilities of applied anthropology, with the use of anthropology in practical situations, in organizations of public service, non-profit and commercial sector. The absolvents of the coutse should get not only the idea about the possibilities of using cultural and social anthropology, but also broadly suggest the proposal of applied research with the knowledge of its ethical dimension.
Gaining an overview of the practical application of social anthropology, the ability to design simple applied research.

Written examination, Work-related product analysis, Self project defence, Presentation

Test based on topics from lectures, seminars and texts, minimum 60% points Seminar presentation of applied research and or presentation of own idea of applied research - uploaded after the feedback to semestral works Activity in seminars - activities, readings, discussion of colleagues work Seminar attendance is a condition for getting a grade from the course (minus 0,25 of final mark if not prepared)
