Course content
Modes of documentation. The possibilities of research results presentation. Beginnings of the film documentaries. Development of scientific films. Development of film and audiovisual technologies and its impact on the attitude towards reality. Life of foreign and remote civilisations, exoticism and curiosity as one of the first film motives. Film narration and film language. Changes in the film language depending on technologies. Substance of the film narration. Interpretation of reality and the problem of truth and objectivity. Phases of the beginning of audiovisual documentary project. Concept, theme, script, preparation, shooting, editing, sound postproduction, distribution. Roles of author and their relationship towards technical profession. Members of the film crew and their tasks. Structure of the script. Kinds of takes/shots, pattern of editing composition, the rules of connecting shots. Film sound. Overview of film and video technologies. Types of cameras. Edition and postproduction technologies. i Video-camera work. Microphone work. Sound edition and mix. . Making a multimedia presentation.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the possibilities of audiovisual tools for the means of research documentation and presentation, to the possibilities of distribution and to the main trends in new technologies development.
Students will be able to use the digital camera as well as the basic post-production processes - edition, sound mix, and the final media procession. They will familiarise themselves with the film language as well as with the basic communication during shooting.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation, Creative work analysis

Students will submit audiovisual 3-minute piece, where they will prove their technical ability to manage a shooting, conduct an interview and describe a simple plot by means of the film language.
