Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the role of sport from an anthropological perspective. After an introductory historical overview, sport is examined in the context of colonialism and postcolonialism, nationalism, religion, globalization, and gender. Lectures are supplemented by seminars focused on reading and interpreting texts and films related to sport.
Students will learn about sport from a more comprehensive social science perspective, including in the context of non-European cultures. This will enable them to perceive this activity contextually.
