Course content |
Introduction, basic terminology. Communication (interpersonal, intrapersonal, non-verbal, mass). Phases of human communication development. History of the media (press, film, radio, TV, computers). Theory and effects of mass communication. Ethnography of communication. Anthropology - script, symbols. Time and space. Ethnic stereotypes in the media. Journalistic methods applied in anthropology (report, biography, etc.).

Learning outcomes |
The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the forms of human communication (development and types of communication), to the influence of media on shaping of social reality and mainly to the stereotypes of ethnics and ethnic minorities presentation. Concrete examples will be used to study the application of journalistic methods in anthropology. Note: The course complements the Introduction to visual anthropology course.
