Course content
1 Birth and development of multiculturalism 2 Main directions and theoreticians of multiculturalism 3 Main non-anthropological critiques of multiculturalism 4 Anthropological approaches to multiculturalism 5 How institutions deal with the concept of ?race?. ?Critical race theory? 6 Politics towards minorities/foreigners 7 Human rights issues 8 Group/minority rights and language rights 9 Inequalities in education 10 Multiculturalism in the Czech Republic 11 Methods of multicultural education. Transcultural approach 12 Approaches that work with migration, belief, media, gender and social inequalities

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book)
Learning outcomes
This course focuses on making students reflect upon the situation when terms used in social sciences (culture, ethnics, identity) effect politics and activities of institutions. The course will introduce participants to the basic theories and development in multiculturalism. Some methods of instruction based on critical multiculturalism will be presented.
Students will be able to describe how different understanding of culture leads to different practices of multiculturalism. They will be able to apply this ability in analysis of concrete institutions and discourses.
