Course content
What is culture and how is it connected to society and evolution? Civilisation and culture. Culture as symbols. Semantic conceptualisation of culture. Language: important part of culture. Artefacts, things, technology and their meaning. Archaeology and anthropology about culture. Space and culture. Cultural ecology and anthropology about the relationship society-environment. Time and its cultural measures. Literacy and education. Socialisation and cultural identity.

Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Stimulating activities (simulation, games, drama)
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the beginnings and development of anthropology and its differentiation to individual sub-disciplines, sub-fields and disciplines. Special attention is paid to social anthropology. Explanation of basic terminology and methods of the main anthropological movements is also provided during the course. The seminar focuses on analysis and interpretation of texts from the viewpoint of current anthropological thinking. In the second part, the course will focus on different aspects of anthropological notions on culture with special emphasis on the problems of anthropology as a comparative analysis of societies.
Students will also be familiar with the modern attitude to solution of problems connected with life in multicultural society and present-day globalised world. They will acquire the knowledge required for further study.

Active participation in seminars, min 75% attendance. Assignment, on the basis of points - requirements will be specified at the first seminar.
