The meaning and role of social work (SW). SW as a discipline, science, work and art, various approaches in the work of a social worker. Working with a client, establishing a contact, communication, individually focused intervention. Dilemmas in SW. Legislative and institutional basis of SW. Competences of social worker.

The objective of the course is to make students familiar with theoretical points of departure of social work and to make them acquire practical skills necessary when in touch with a client. The acquisition of skills will be based on model situations.
The students will be able to focus on basic communication with a client, to use their theoretical knowledge during practical tasks done in seminars and at the same time they will visit a few chosen institutions of social service in a region. The students will understand the legislation focused on a social service and social work and basic competences of a social worker. |
