Course content |
First World War and the Czech issue. CSR formation. The political system; economic and social development in the first CSR. Cultural development in the First Republic. The issue of nationhood in the First Republic. Foreign orientation and foreign politics in the first CSR. Munich, 1938. The second republic - society and culture. The Czech and Moravia Protectorate and the Slovak state. Collaboration and the resistance movement during the Second World War. Culture in the Protectorate.

Learning outcomes |
The aim of this course is to provide a description and an analysis of the key events of the independent Czechoslovak Republic, particularly as these relate to its rise and development. The course will focus on a deeper cultural/historical interpretation that is based on a brief outline of political, economic, and social development.
Based on an essential knowledge of Czechoslovak cultural history, students will be better able to understand and analyze the problems and the specifics of cultural development in this country. |
