Course content
Block 1): Theoretical introduction Summary of laboratory exercises Lab. 1. Organic binders, solubility of organic binders. Cleaning: basic principles, methods and application possibilities. Block 2): Solubility of organic binders / Teas parameters, triangular solubility diagram Solubility: Teas solubility parameters, triangle diagram. Solubility of natural organic binders. Painting: preparation paint layers based on tempera. Block 3): Cleaning / organic solutions Cyclododecane solution, sublimation. Selected cleaning methods: chelating agents. Application of cleaning materials. Basic microchemical selective reactions. Paint stratigraphy. Block 4): Stratigraphy paintings / microscopy Microscopic investigation of paintings.

Learning outcomes
The target of this subject is to check and primarily to complete theoretical knowledge in organic and inorganic chemistry.
Students get practical experience with materials and methods commonly used in conservation profession. Students obtain basic knowledge in the field of chemical technology of monument conservation. In addition to, students obtain experience with written documents.
Prerequisites
Students must pass Basics of Chemistry I and should attend the course Basics of Chemistry II.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Students gain credits if they attend the laboratory course performing given experiments and submitting laboratory report at the end of the semester.
