Course content
1., 2. Modal verbs to express obligation, permission and ability Modal verbs can x can't, may x mustn't, must x needn't, shall, should and their substitute verbs used in other than the present Comparing life now and then Speaking about duties and things we are allowed to do nowadays in comparison to the past 3., 4. Argumentative essay Ways to express agreement and disagreement Linking ideas Phrases to introduce an idea, to agree or disagree with a statement, to add information etc. Written assignment: Write an argumentative essay which would compare your and your parents' lives when they were young 5., 6. Safety at work Imperatives Passive voice Vocabulary concerning safety at work Personal protective equipment 7., 8. Crime and punishment All tenses Conditionals Vocabulary regarding types of criminal activities, the trial process, punishment Discussions on the topic of capital punishment 9., 10. Modal verbs to express probability Use of modal verbs must, can't, may, could, might to express deductions about the present, future and past Expressing probability Listening comprehension and speaking: based on clues given to students, they deduce who committed a crime 11., 12. Verb patterns Verbs followed by infinitive, gerund or bare infinitive Verbs followed by either gerund or infinitive with no/slight change of meaning or with a change of meaning Adjective + preposition Verb + preposition Exercises 13., 14. Learning outcomes
Lessons are to improve current foreign language study of secondary schools graduates (ability to read and study foreign professional literature, listen to lectures presented in a foreign language) and broaden communicative competence. Subject objective consists in making students be well versed in their field of study being abroad, work with foreign literature and take an active part in staying abroad.
Students to master English language to the extent to be able to communicate in an international context.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

The test is granted on the basis of complete tasks for the entire semester and shall be subject to participation in the education process and the execution of tasks assigned to it, semester ends with a written test and oral interview that student prepares a report by a complementary reading.
