The aim of the course is an introduction into the new growing issues of restoration of modern and contemporary art of the 20. and 21. century. Introducing changes and different understanding of an art practice and what an art work could be. The influences and changes on our understanding of the problems of restoration of contemporary art. New issues in the field of restoration. The theory of restoration of modern and contemporary art: INCCA and other initiatives, the current state of research, the main concern, basic literature. Reflection of the problems of restoration of modern works of art. The difference of art of the 20th and 21st century from the art in earlier periods, in particular by extending the materials used, techniques, as well as artistic procedures and concepts. How modern and contemporary art changes and redefines the profession of a restorer. An explanation of the specific features of the scope: Performativity and intangibility (Muňoz Viňas) in praxis. Authenticity. Documentation. An overview of possible approaches and procedures: kinetic art, plastics, perishable materials. Artists interviews. Time based media, media art, video. Examples and discussion of different problems in restoration of contemporary art, different approaches according to different stakeholders. Legal problems. 1.
