Principles of the computer as the basic means for data utilization and as the foundation stone for information systems. Historical development - an overview of current types. Fundamentals of computer architecture - classifying and assigning memory. Processors - overview and significance for the computer Bus systems, their role and significance in the speed of information utilization Presentation and recording of data in the computer, saving data on a disk, hard disk, FAT table Data recording on a CD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-DVD Introduction to operation systems, historical development One-user operation systems - the role of BIOS. Fundamentals of OS Windows, Fundamentals of OS UNIX Equipping computers with programs - an overview Collaboration of the computer with its surroundings - principles of data exchange, viruses Computer networks and their capabilities Internet and Intranet Security of information systems and of databases Application of information systems in health care

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to consolidate and review knowledge of computers, computer software and information systems with a focus on the needs of the health care system. Moreover, the aim is for the student to master basic work with health care information systems.
Upon course completion, the student will master a) as part of the basic scope, the operation system Windows, office softwares (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), b) email communication including its security, and c) basic work with the health care information system. Furthermore, the student will be able to find information from professional health care portals, electronic libraries and databases, Medline.
