Introduction into health care informatics. Functional units and modules in Hospital Information System and their relations, benefits of Hospital Information System. System administration, configurations and code lists. Patient records, patient administration, mandatory statements, Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic, National Health Information System, registers (outpatients and inpatients) Electronic patient record, free and formalized documentation, relevant legislation, availability, diagnosis records. Specifics of EPR in selected disciplines (ICU, obstetrics and neonatology, stomatology) Medication and prescription, pharmaceutical chain (pharmacy, ward storage). Workflow management using Hospital Information System, requirements, orders, calendar. Laboratory complement, placing orders, data processing, automatization using bar code and other technologies. Imaging complement, request for examination, procesing results, storing and displaying image information (PACS). Reporting and billing of a health care using NIS support, performance related and DRG system. Research and further data processing, databases and expert systems. Operational and economic systems, systems to support managerial decision making. Regional health care Information System and its components, Emergency Department Information System, the use in health care management, communication between systems. Implementing and ensuring of Hospital Information System operation, basis of the technical solution of Hospital Information System, supervision, outsourcing. Introduction into work with NIS MEDEA, individual modules, examples of system administration (node map, user management, access rights). Patient administration (outpatients and inpatients - admission, patient transfer, discharge), documentation and reporting, National Health Information System, central register; requirements and calendar. Examination findings, patient record, reports, templates, hospital discharge record, surgery protocol. User defined functions, print templates, making general forms. Specifics of documentation for Intensive Care, and for the department of Obstetrics & Neonatology. Example of a pharmacy information system, ward medical store management and health care material management, medication, prescriptions, documentation and reporting. Laboratory information system LIS (admission and specifying requirements, entering and checking results), working with requisitions and results in the NIS MEDEA clinical module, manual data entering. NIS MEDEA modules for radiodiagnostics and pathology, working with PACS. Data acquisition for reporting in clinical modules, DRG case processing, central processing, documentation and reporting. Emergency Department documentation in systems AMICUS and DIALOG MIS.

The aim of the course is to gain a clear view of the functions and modules of a hospital information system (HIS) and to gain in-depth knowledge of modules used in clinical settings; to gain knowledge of legal regulations related to the usage of health care documentation and the usage of health care information systems, practical acquisition of skills to use HIS clinical modules.
The student will be able to plan and organize the use and development of a HIS in his/her work setting, to conduct an expert assessment of the impact of implementing its individual components even at the level of the entire institution and will be able, in particular, to independently serve the HIS and to share his/her experience with others. |
