Course content
Introduction to health care informatics. Functional units and HIS modules and their links, benefits of HIS. System administration, configuration, and codes. Patient data, patient administration and compulsory reports, ÚZIS, NZIS, registries (outpatient and inpatient). Electronic patient record (EPR), free and formalized documentation, related legislation, accessibility, evidence Dx. EPR specifications in selected subspecialties (intensive care, obstetrics and neonatology, stomatology, ?). Medication and prescription, the medication chain (pharmacy, ward-based stock). Workflow management with the support of an HIS, requirements, orders, agenda. Laboratory complement, orders, work with results, automation using bar coding and other technologies. Viewing complement, examination requests, work with results, saving and viewing image information. Care reporting and billing with the support of an HIS, output and DRG system, grouper. Research and additional data processing, databases, and expert systems. Operation and economic systems, systems for the support of managerial decision-making. Regional health care IS and its components, outpatient IS, utilization for health care management, communication between systems. Selection of an HIS and the related legislature, comparison of HIS solutions in the Czech market. Implementing and securing an HIS service, fundamentals of technical solutions within the HIS, supervision, outsourcing.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to gain a clear view of the functions and modules of a hospital information system (HIS) and to gain in-depth knowledge of modules used in clinical settings; to gain knowledge of legal regulations related to the usage of health care documentation and the usage of health care information systems, practical acquisition of skills to use HIS clinical modules.
The student will be able to plan and organize the use and development of a HIS in his/her work setting, to conduct an expert assessment of the impact of implementing its individual components even at the level of the entire institution and will be able, in particular, to independently serve the HIS and to share his/her experience with others.

Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a practical examination.
