Course content
Spinal and spinal cord injuries and craniocerebral injuries. Degenerative disease of the spine. Intracranial tumors and spinal cord tumors. Nursing process in patients with impaired consciousness. Nursing process for patients with spine and spinal cord injuries, with craniocerebral injury. Nursing process in patients after vascular reconstructive surgery. Nursing process in patients after mastectomy. Nursing process in patients after thyroid surgery. Nursing process for patients with ileus. Nursing process in patients with acute appendicitis. Nursing process in patients after lung surgery. Nursing process for amputation patients. Mini-invasive and endoscopic surgery, operating rooms.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with work in operating theatres and in surgical intensive care units, to know and apply specifics of the nursing process to the care of patients after surgical interventions.
The student knows the principle of central sterilization, spatial arrangements, aseptic service in operation theatres and fundamentals of instrumentation. He/she will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing process in the care of patients after surgical interventions and to use knowledge from interdisciplinary fields.

Work-related product analysis

Credit is awarded for 80% participation in the exercises, 100% participation in the operating rooms as part of the exercises. Completion of the oral exam.
