Course content

Alternative stabilization of the airway. Non-invasive x invasive ventilation, unconventional ventilation. Special features of anaesthesia in children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Devices for administering anaesthesia. Monitoring in anaesthesia. The differences in anaesthesia in operations within individual operating disciplines. Special features of regional anaesthesia. Shock states. SIRS, sepsis. Multiple organ failure - prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. Monitoring of critically ill patients - haemodynamics, ICP, IAP. Elimination methods. Nutrition in critically ill patients. The transplant program. Organization of stabilization of critically ill patients. Polytrauma in intensive care. Admission of the critically ill client - the procedure used to stabilize him or her. Organization of nursing care in the ARO. Aids for airway stabilization - in anaesthesia as well as in resuscitation care. Preparation for individual methods of regional anaesthesia. News in CPR. Ventilators. Arterial and central venous system cannulation, care of invasive devices. Monitoring in the ARO (haemodynamics, ICP, IAP). CRRT. Resuscitation beds, care of the airways (inhalation, irrigation, suction). Nosocomial infections - prevention, stabilization of the infectious patient. Pain clinic. Disinfection and sterilization of devices in the ARO.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to deepen theoretical as well as practical knowledge of the given field. Emphasis is placed upon special issues in anaesthesia as part of individual surgical subspecialties. In the area of resuscitation, it is devoted to care of critically ill patients. It covers especially individual states of shock, sepsis, ARDS, and multiorgan failure.
The student knows the principles of admitting a critically ill patient, organization of nursing care in the department of anaesthesia and resuscitation, principles of airway securement, and principles of monitoring and ventilation of critically ill patients.

Student performance assessment
Completion of compulsory 60% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test. Successful completion of an oral examination.
