Course content
Anaemia. Etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. White blood cell disorders. Acute and chronic leukaemia. Malignant symptoms of tumour proliferation. Malignant lymphomas - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options. Physiology of blood clotting - introduction, primary haemostasis. Thrombocytopenia, symptomatology of platelet function disorders. Plasma coagulation system, role of fibrinolytic system. Natural inhibitors of blood clotting. Acute bleeding conditions from congenital and acquired causes, differential diagnosis, treatment. Antiplatelet drugs, anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapy. Laboratory monitoring. Physical examination by a nurse, assessment of current state of health, mapping of patient's needs and assessment of potential risks. Principles of blood and bone marrow taking (blood count, coagulation tests, sternal puncture, biopsy). Collection and puncture materials, use and sterilisation. Principles of handling cytostatics. Adverse effects of oncological treatment in patients with haematological disease. Nursing process in patients with haematological disease.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the specifics of the field of clinical haematology and with selected haematological diseases.
Students know the pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and principles of nursing care for patients with selected haematological diseases. They are able to plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing process with regard to their specifics. They are ready for educational and consulting activities in this area.

Fulfillment of mandatory participation in lectures and exercises. Successful completion of the written test.
