Course content

Kidney anatomy and physiology. Symptomatology of renal illnesses. Examination methods in nephrology. Primary and secondary illnesses of glomeruli. Tubular diseases. Congenital kidney illnesses. Acute and chronic kidney failure. Treatment methods for chronic renal failure. Blood cleansing methods. Principles of haemodialysis. Acute and chronic complications of haemodialysis treatment. Peritoneal dialysis. Kidney transplantation.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with pathophysiology of the kidney function and of kidney illnesses, with an emphasis on symptomatology of kidney diseases, their development, and course. Next, with the possibility of replacement of kidney function, its benefits as well as risks and complications.
The student knows the essence of an acute and chronic kidney failure, examination methods in nephrology, and theoretically, the principles of individual types of dialysis, including their complications. Next, he/she has practical knowledge of preparation methods for individual types of dialysis.

Didactic test
Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test.
