Course content
Introduction to the pneumology subject. Examination methods in pneumology. Lung inflammation. Pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Care of patients with inflammatory diseases of the respiratory pathways. Asthma bronchiale. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Care of patients with dyspnoea, especially with bronchial obstruction. Lung and bronchial tumours, fight against smoking. Care of oncological patients in pneumology. Interstitial lung processes, sarcoidosis, diseases of the pleura.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge in the field of cardiology and pneumology and to become acquainted with fundamentals of symptomatology, diagnostics, treatment, and nursing issues in the care of patients with diseases of the heart, the blood vessels, and the respiratory system.
The student acquires basic knowledge of principles of care in the cardiology and pneumology subspecialties and acquires an ability to evaluate an EKG and to recognize serious arrhythmias. He/she understands the roles and significance of nursing care in the care of patients with these diseases. He/she is able to practically apply gained knowledge. He/she is able to identify and assess individual needs, to plan, to implement, and to evaluate nursing care in the area of cardiology and pneumology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Student performance assessment

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work. Successful completion of a written test.
