Course content
Spine and spinal cord injuries and craniocerebral injuries. Degenerative spine disease. Intracerebral tumours and spinal cord tumours. Nursing process in patients with impaired consciousness. Nursing process in patients with spine and spinal cord injuries, and with craniocerebral injuries. Nursing process in patients after vascular reconstructive surgery. Nursing process in patients after mastectomy. Nursing process in patients after thyroid surgery. Nursing process in patients with ileus. Nursing process in patients with acute appendicitis. Nursing process in patients after lung surgery. Nursing process in patients after amputation. Minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery, operating rooms.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues of neurosurgery, the work in the operating rooms and intensive care units of surgical disciplines, and to know and apply the specifics of the nursing process in patients after surgical procedures.
Students know the principle of central sterilization, spatial arrangement, aseptic working in the operating rooms and the basics of instrumentation. Students are able to plan, manage, and evaluate the nursing process in patients after surgical procedures, use the knowledge of interdisciplinary fields (anatomy, physiology, surgery, nursing) and they are able to justify and defend the chosen procedures.

Assessment methods and criteria
Work-related product analysis

Credit is given for 80 % attendance in seminars and 100 % attendance in operating theatres as part of the seminars. Passing a test in neurosurgery. Passing an oral exam.
