Course content
|
Introduction to crisis situations, acute stress reactions and emotions (ASR). Causes of ASR, situations in which ASR is encountered. ASR in adults, ASR in children and adolescents. Coping options, further care for the person in crisis or with ASR. Case studies, practical exercises.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with how to practically communicate with patients or with patients' families and loved ones, especially during an acute stress reaction. The goal is to teach students how to communicate with an ongoing acute stress reaction, how to conduct an empathic conversation, how to use turns, how to work with the emotions of patients and their loved ones. The subject contains basic theory, but it is mainly based on the practical training of the aforementioned.
Student applies his/ her knowledge and experience gained during lectures and seminars into practice, Student manages to communicate with people in different age periods as well as the communication with problematic types of individuals. Student can solve conflicts and problems using assertive techniques.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance assessment
Fulfillment of mandatory participation in exercises as decided by the course supervisor. Completion of the course will be in the form of practical credit.
